U14 Girls in Cheshire Youth Futsal Festival
Our Appleton Girls U14 team took part in the Cheshire Youth Futsal Festival in Marple, Stockport on Sunday 19th February 2014 and did themselves proud. This game is high speed, nonstop 5 a side indoor football.
Pitted against Manor JFC from Wallasey and having been beaten 6-1 in the first leg, they fought back with guts and energy to win the 2nd leg 3-2 to take the tie to a decider. There were many hero's (or should I say heroines!) but a special mention must go to the goalkeepers who stood there and took a battering whilst managing on numerous attempts to keep the ball out. The game was fast, competitive and hard and whilst many came off with a bang or a crack (normally to the head but occasionally the foot) not one person did not have the courage to go back on try again.
The final leg was lost 6-2 but that put no dampner on the day or occasion at all with the girls doing themselves and the Club proud. Coaches Jon Uttley and Graham Benbow could not have asked for more and a celebratory KFC was taken in on the way home.
